Moral Genius concurs in the research of Dr. Daniel Goleman and others which has shown that IQ contributes only 20% to the success a person is likely to experience. The Mission of Moral Genius is to develop tools to help parents, teachers, and other caretakers promote and strengthen strong moral values and “Emotional Intelligence” in children during the early years of life. In recent years a great deal of study has been done to discover what makes a person successful. It is a common misconception that the number one predictor of success is IQ. Research done by Daniel Goleman, Ph.D. and others has shown that intelligence contributes only around 20% to the success that a person will experience in life. Rather, Goleman, in his important work, argues that our emotions play a much greater role in thought, decision making and individual success than is commonly acknowledged. He defines “emotional intelligence”, a trait not measured by IQ tests, as a set of skills, including Self Control, Self-Motivation, Empathy and Social Competence in Interpersonal Relationships. All of these traits can be and are taught!

The Moral Genius teaching methodology is through the use of age appropriate Flash Cards. We have created these cards in a format that is familiar to both you and your child, closely resembling the way your child would learn the sounds of letters, mathematics, or a foreign language. We encourage you to delve deeper into these character traits with your children and discuss with them how you’ve applied these principles in your own life. Also, have your children describe to you how they have seen these principles at work in experiences they have had or in tv shows or movies they have seen. Role play scenarios depicted in the cards, or try to “catch” your children displaying these traits and reward them (see enclosed stickers). Parental involvement, modeling, discussion, and guidance are an indispensable adjuncts to the cards.

In the United States the major goals of primary education are achieving basic literacy and math competency among all pupils, as well as establishing foundations in science, higher mathematics, geography, history and other social sciences. The relative priority of various subject areas, and the methods used to teach them, are subject to a great deal of variation among the states.

In recent years there has been a growing awareness at all levels of education that teaching moral and ethical values to children is indispensable. This awareness is in large part driven by research which has shown that the ability to demonstrate such character traits as Empathy, Impulse Control, Self Esteem, Self Motivation, Mood Management, and People Skills are even more important to a child’s future success and happiness than native intelligence.

We at Moral Genius are in complete agreement with that analysis and our basic product line reflects that agreement. We at MoralGenius™ agree with the research of Dr. Daniel Goleman and others showing that IQ contributes only 20% to the success a person is likely to experience in life. We have put together a program that aims to help develop the other 80% identified by Dr. Goleman and collectively called Emotional Intelligence. We base our approach on sets of cards, a format that is likely familiar to children, closely resembling the way they often learn things like the alphabet or numbers. Also, each of our cards is meant to be an occasion for you the parent to talk with your child about a character trait or value.
